Since 1873, men have been studying the stars at the Pic du Midi Observatory. Since 1981, the Bernard Lyot telescope has allowed us to better understand the stars and galaxies. Many research programs have been carried out at the Pic du Midi. Today, the Midi-Pyrénées Observatory conducts its work in 3 main areas:
- atmospheric sciences
The technical platform of the Observatory of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre has for mission to bring a technical, logistic support to the scientific experiments of the Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées.
It ensures the good functioning of the observations and training sessions of higher education implanted in the Pic du Midi. The experiments in progress cover all the thematic fields of the sciences of the universe with six astronomical domes in two services of observation in astronomy (TBL, T1M, T60, LJR, solar corona, space weather) and twelve experiments of laboratories of the OMP, and other laboratories of the national and international community. The Pic du Midi is notably one of the two sites of observation of the Pyrenean Platform of Atmospheric Observation.
20 agents are assigned to the unit covering an expertise in electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering.
